She Told Me to Erase Myself. I Said No — Because Legacy Doesn't Shrink.

She charged a lot. I'll give her that. High-priced social media coach, the kind with the shiny funnel and the follower count that makes you feel small before she even opens her mouth.

"Marti," she said, leaning into the camera like she was doing me a favor, "do not call yourself a Latina Coach or Strategist."

I blinked.

"Nobody will hire you as a Latina coach."

There it was. Clean. Surgical. Said with the confidence of a woman who'd never once had to introduce herself with a last name that teachers butchered on the first day of school.

And you know what I almost did? Nodded. Because she was expensive, ¿no? And expensive must mean right.

But here's the thing about that moment, hermosa — the part that changed everything. That coach had never met my people. She didn't know my market. Didn't know the MujerPreneurs who DM me at 11pm, in between feeding babies and folding laundry and praying over their business plans. Latina. Bilingual. BIPOC. She looked at my culture like it was a liability on a balance sheet.

She didn't understand that being raised Latina is the strategy.

So I said no. Out loud. In the meeting. Not rude, not dramatic — just no. And for the first time, I could feel why I was saying it. It wasn't pride. It wasn't stubbornness. It was legacy.

We're M.O.M.s — Masters of Multitasking

Let me tell you what she didn't know. In my world, the kitchen table is a boardroom. You're on hold with the insurance company, you're helping with spelling words, you're stirring the sofrito, and you're drafting the email that's going to land the client — all before the coffee gets cold.

That's not chaos. That's our operating system.

I call us M.O.M.s. Masters of Multitasking. Because that's what we are. We've been running households, businesses, faith, family, and community since before "hustle culture" had a name. We don't need a guru to teach us how to juggle. We invented the game.

And here's the twist nobody saw coming — especially not that coach.

For my ADHD brain? Multitasking isn't the problem. It's the anchor.

She didn't know that. How could she? She was selling me a system built for a brain that isn't mine. One thing at a time, she said. Focus. Niche down. Pick one lane.

Ay, hermosa. One lane?

When I force myself into one lane, my brain does what bored ADHD brains do: it chases shiny objects. Ooh, a new platform. Ooh, a new course. Ooh, a brilliant idea at 2am that's really just procrastination wearing a tiara. I get bored, I get scattered, I get nowhere.

But give me five things moving at once? I'm locked in. The energy, the flow, the momentum — that's where I live. That's where I win. The multitasking that looked like a weakness to her is the exact engine that makes everything work. She was asking me to amputate my own wiring.

And here's what I finally understand, hermosa: that engine isn't just for me. It never was.

The Legacy — La Herencia

See, here's the part I couldn't see in that Zoom call, the part that took me months to name: I don't refuse to erase myself for me. I refuse for them. Para las que vienen — for the ones coming behind me.

Somebody's daughter is watching. La tuya. La mía. The girl who's going to Google "Latina coach" one day and needs to find us standing there, loud and unapologetic, in our full Spanglish glory. The young MujerPreneur who's about to be told — by some expensive woman with a funnel — that she's too much, too Latina, too bilingual, too everything. She needs to know somebody said no first.

We aren't just rocking six figures for ourselves, hermosa. We're building a path for the next generation of badass MujerPreneurs. Every time I say "Latina Coach" out loud, I'm laying a brick. Every caption, every episode, every Dios mío in a meeting — that's me widening the road.

That's the part she never understood. She thought my title was a marketing decision. It's not. It's a sacred act of leadership. Standing in my truth as a Latina Coach means the woman behind me gets to stand in hers — and she won't have to fight for it the way we did.

The Lesson

So here's what I know now, and I need you to hear it: you can't manifest wealth with someone who asks you to erase who you are.

Manifestation is not a delivery service. It's a resonance. You attract what you ARE. And when a coach — however expensive — asks you to shrink, to hide the accent, to drop the title, to sound like somebody's assistant instead of somebody's authority... that's not strategy.

That's a slow erasure. And erasure doesn't just cost you, hermosa. It costs the ones coming after you.

My market didn't need me to sound like her. My market needed me to sound like me. The bilingual, bicultural, brown-and-proud me who says Dios mío in meetings and signs off with "Wishing you the best day ever!"

The clients came when I came back. The money followed the alignment, not the polish. La bendición regresó — the blessing returned.

So if a coach ever tells you to drop who you are so you can get hired — hear me, hermosa: run. That's your Sixth Sense tightening in your chest. That's your ancestors tapping your shoulder. Hermosa, no. Listen. They didn't survive everything they survived so you could sound like a press release.

You don't need to be less Latina to be more successful. You need to be MORE you. Eso es todo. That's the whole secret.

And the women coming behind us? They're watching how we do this. Let's make sure they see us standing tall, earning big, and building a path they can walk without apologizing.

La herencia es nuestra. The legacy is ours. And it starts with the next "no" you say.

If you are moved to work with me and build with a comunidad that represents you, sees you and is you — reach out. I still answer my DMs personally.

Con amor y un fuerte abrazo,

Wishing you the best day ever!
