What the Holiday Hangover Really Is (and Why You’re Not Broken)

This post is Week One of a three-week series designed for mujeres returning to their work and leadership after the holidays—with presence, compassion, and grounded authority, not pressure.

Let’s name something that doesn’t get talked about enough.

January can feel heavy.

Not because you did something wrong—but because your body, mind, and spirit are recalibrating after weeks of being “on.” Social gatherings. Travel. Emotional labor. Broken routines. Over-giving. Even joyful moments require energy.

That post-holiday fog you’re feeling?
That’s the
holiday hangover.

And no—nothing is wrong with you.

The holiday hangover isn’t about motivation or discipline. It’s the nervous system coming down from overstimulation. It often shows up as clouded thinking, irritability, low focus, and emotional fatigue. You might feel behind before the year even begins.

Eso no es debilidad. Es conciencia.

Here’s the truth I want you to hear with aggressive presence and genuine love:
This fog is not failure.
It’s an invitation.

An invitation to slow down.
An invitation to return to your body.
An invitation to lead from the
present moment, not urgency.

We’ve been taught that strong leaders push through. That January is about momentum and hustle. But seasoned leadership—the kind rooted in wisdom—knows when to soften and listen.

If your life allows, easing into this first week helps. Fewer tasks. Shorter work blocks. Less decision-making. But many mujeres don’t have that option. Work demands, caregiving, and financial realities don’t always leave room for a slow start.

When that’s the case, self-compassion becomes the strategy.

Self-compassion doesn’t mean you’re slacking. It means you understand what’s happening so you don’t turn fatigue into self-judgment. It means staying present with what is, instead of fighting it.

Try this reframe today:

I’m not behind. My system is recalibrating.

This week is not about fixing yourself. It’s about naming what’s real. When we name something, we stop fighting it. And when we stop fighting, energy begins to return naturally.

That’s why this series begins here.

In Week Two, we’ll explore how to ease back into your routine without guilt, even when life doesn’t slow down. In Week Three, we’ll focus on reclaiming your rhythm and creating a sustainable flow that honors who you are now—not who you were years ago.

For today, let this be enough.

Pause for five minutes.
One hand on your heart, one on your belly.
Breathe slowly.
Ask yourself: What does my body need to feel safe returning to rhythm?

No forcing. No hustling. Solo presencia.

January is not asking you to sprint.
It’s asking you to arrive.

Con amor, con conciencia, y con una presencia firme y compasiva.
