Starting a business as an entrepreneur is an exciting endeavor – but I’ve come to learn that it’s a very transformative journey as well. For you, para ustedes, as we say in my culture and with our incredible sense of community/comunidad, being an MujerPreneur can be one of the coolest things to do. When we convert our unique cultural heritage, our diverse communities and those dynamic spirits into business dreams, we can make it into anything. The road, from my experience, is not always easy. So, with love, con mucho amor here is some advice.
Stay Resilient
Resilience is the secret for success. We MujerPreneurs deal daily with a double challenge: the cultural bias faced by us and, more often than not, the challenge of balancing family and business life. Every setback is a set-up for a comeback. What we should do is get up, dust ourselves off, and learn from our failures. Never give up. You will inspire others to overcome their setbacks, and the world will become a better place for all your descendants.

Embrace Your Cultural Identity
Drawing upon your heritage as a source of inspiration and as a well of stories and experiences is a rich seam to mine. Wearing your cultural light proudly in your business is an enormous source of validation and strength to both those around you and, perhaps more importantly, to yourself. If you really dig down, you’ll discover that your heritage, history and cultural journey are all fields of gold.

Build a Strong Support Network
No MujerPreneur runs a company in a bubble. Find your tribe. Encuentra tu gente. If you are Latina or Hispanic, seek other women who might be on the same journey – someone to offer advice, boost your confidence and, perhaps, partner with you on a project. Surround yourself with a supportive comunidad that understands you.
Focus on Continuous Learning and Innovation
The business world is always changing. Make a commitment to learn every day, and to always find a way to innovate. Try something new every day: Take a course or workshop, read a professional or persuasive article, or learn and apply something new. Be open to change/cambio. Never be afraid to add or remove products and services, or change your marketing routine or your benefits program. Change keeps the business fresh, and it keeps it competitive.
Seek Mentorship and Collaborate with Others
Mentorship goes a long way. Find those who’ve ‘been there, done that’ and are willing to help you. Ask for advice and be open to their experience in helping you avoid mistakes. It’s hard to admit, but sometimes we don’t know what we don’t know, especially as new entrepreneurs. Also, choose to collaborate with other industry professionals to make new connections and access new sources of information.
Acuerdate MujerPreneur, you’re running the marathon of entrepreneurship, so stay true to your cultural strengths, and lean on your Latinx comunidad. Your success will trailblaze the way for many MujerPreneurs to come.
